The APICOR Krkonose Distillery was founded in 1999 by the Bohac family, who have been beekeepers for a long time, and the Cerman family, their daughter and son-in-law. They began producing Krkonose-style mead from top-quality Czech honey and water from mountain springs around Janske Lazne. The mead is made in three tastes, i.e., Classic, Sour Cherry and Almond. The higher alcohol content (18%) and year-long maturing process guarantee sufficient stability of the mead without chemical preparations, and an unlimited lifetime.
The assortment now also includes traditional old Czech liqueurs which were available in every pub in the past under the trade names of KONTUŠOVKA, VIŠŇOVKA (with sour cherry flavour), HRUŠKOVKA (pear), OŘECHOVKA (nuts) and KMÍNKA (caraway). The mountain specialities are HOŘCOVKA, KRAKONOŠOVA ZAHRÁDKA, VICHR Z HOR and the KRAKONOŠ herb liqueur.
